Holly is a village located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 6,135. The village is located within Holly Township.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²). 7.2 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.45% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 6,135 people, 2,412 households, and 1,565 families residing in the village. The population density is 852.1/km² (2,204.6/mi²). There are 2,509 housing units at an average density of 348.5/km² (901.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.14% White, 1.29% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.01% from other races, and 1.70% from two or more races. 3.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,412 households out of which 34.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.10. In the village the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 35.6% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $46,436, and the median income for a family is $54,344. Males have a median income of $42,037 versus $27,078 for females. The per capita income for the village is $19,988. 7.3% of the population and 4.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.3% of those under the age of 18 and 14.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
