Holderness (Borough)
Holderness
was a
local government district
and
borough
in northern
England
, named for the
Holderness
peninsula. It was formed on
April 1
,
1974
along with the administrative county of
Humberside
in which it was situated. On
April 1
,
1996
, Humberside and the borough were abolished, and it became part of the new unitary
East Riding of Yorkshire
. Towns in the borough included
Preston (North & South)
,
Hedon
,
Hornsea
and
Withernsea
. These
urban districts
together with
Holderness Rural District
were merged to form the district in 1974.
