hoagie (dict)

Hoagie

A sandwhich local to the Philadelphia area, the hoagie consists of an elongated roll, oil, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sweet peppers, and a selection of meats. Traditionally the hoagie was thought to have originated in Philadelphia, but a Delco Times Article claims that it was actually a product of neighboring Chester City in Delaware County. While hoagies vary from hoagie shop to hoagie shop, its aroma is ubiquitous across the area and distinct from immitation hoagies across the nation. This is believed to be due to the Amarosa rolls which are made with Philadelphia water. Note: that this page previously redirected to "submarine sandwich" is an insult, and it was obviously not put together by someone from Philadelphia. But here is the link so as to maintain a diverse network of information.
