HevesHeves is the name of: - an administrative county (comitatus or megye) in present Hungary,

Heves county Heves county lies in northern Hungary. It lies between the right bank of the river Tisza and the Mtra and Bkk mountains. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Pest, Ngrd, Borsod-Abaj-Zempln and Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok. The capital of Heves county is Eger. Its area is 3637 km². Heves (former county) Heves is also the name of a historic administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory, which is presently in northern Hungary, was slightly larger than that of present Heves county. The capital of the county was Eger. Geography Heves county shared borders with the Hungarian counties Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun, Ngrd, Gmr-Kishont, Borsod, Hajd and Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok. It stretched from the Mtra and Bkk mountains to and across the river Tisza. Its area was 3878 km² around 1910. History Heves county was formed in the 13th century. After World War II, the territory of the county was modified: the region around Pszt is now in Ngrd county, the area on the left bank of the Tisza (Tiszafred) is now in Jsz-Nagykun-Szolnok county, and an area north of Eger was taken from Borsod-Abaj-Zempln county. Districts In the early 20th century, the districts and their capitals were: Urban districts: Heves (town) Heves is also a town in the south of Heves county, Hungary. It lies about 100 km east of Budapest. It has 11400 inhabitants (2004).
