Hessle

Hessle is a town in East Yorkshire, England, situated 5 miles west of Kingston upon Hull on the north bank of the River Humber where that river is crossed by the Humber Bridge. A Joan Stuteville from this ancient parish introduced the custom of ladies riding side-saddle on horses. In more modern times, it has been a centre for shipbuilding.
