Henry Wirz

Major Henry Wirz (1822November 10, 1865) was the only Confederate soldier executed in the aftermath of the American Civil War for war crimes. The Swiss-born immigrant commanded the infamous POW prison in Andersonville, Georgia. Atrocious conditions in this prison resulted in the deaths of over 13,000 Union prisoners.
