Henry County is a county located in the state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 15,060. Its county seat is New Castle ⁶.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 754 km² (291 mi²). 749 km² (289 mi²) of it is land and 5 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 15,060 people, 5,844 households, and 4,330 families residing in the county. The population density is 20/km² (52/mi²). There are 6,381 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (22/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.97% White, 3.30% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.26% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 2.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,844 households out of which 33.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 10.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.90% are non-families. 22.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.97. In the county the population is spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 29.70% from 25 to 44, 24.70% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 99.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.90 males. The median income for a household in the county is $37,263, and the median income for a family is $45,009. Males have a median income of $31,478 versus $21,982 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,846. 13.70% of the population and 10.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.50% of those under the age of 18 and 19.90% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
