Helmut Koester

Helmut Koester (1926 - ) is a German-born American scholar of the New Testament, and currently Research Professor of Divinity and Ecclesiastical History at Harvard Divinity School. Koester was a student of Rudolf Bultmann, and later an assistant of Guenther Bornkamm at Heidelberg University 1954-6. He was a visiting professor at Harvard in 1958, and became the John H. Morison Professor of Ecclesiastical History in 1963. His students include Elaine Pagels. His current projects include editing Archeological Resources for the Study of the New Testament.
