Hebrew Words

Hebrew contains many words, and here are a few basic ones. Please note that the italic letters have a rough "h" sound that is not found in the English language. It is formed by using the back of the throat and saying the "huh" sound. You will know you are doing it right if your throat feels tighter than usual. Please also note that Hebrew is a Masculine/Feminine language, and most of the words are just general words without any male or female form. If, however, you see an "M" or "F" by the word, then you know that they are different. Commonly used words Hello/Goodbye -- Shalom --------------- shal-ome Please --------- Bevakashah ----------- bay-vah-ka-shah Quiet(direct)--- Shekat---------------- sheh-kit Excuse Me/Sorry- Sleachah ------------- slee-hah I -------------- Ani ------------------ an-ee You (M) -------- Ata ------------------ ah-tah You (F) -------- At ------------------- aht Children ------- Yeladeem ------------- yell-ah-deem I want --------- Ani Rotsay ----------- an-ee ro-tsay I learn -------- Ani Lomed ------------ an-ee loe-med Food ----------- Ocheal --------------- oh-hel To eat --------- Le-echol-------------- lay-ay-hole Play(verb)------ Mesachek-------------- mess-a-hek To play -------- Lesachek-------------- less-a-hek Foods Chicken (dead)-- Oaf ------------------ ofe Corn ----------- Teeras --------------- tee-ras Carrots -------- Gazale --------------- gay-zale Cucumber ------- Meylafafone----------- may-la-fa-fone Apple ---------- Tapuach -------------- tah-poo-ah Potato --------- Tapuach Adama -------- tah-poo-ah ah-dah-mah Orange --------- Tapuz ---------------- tah-pooz Eggs ----------- Beitseem ------------- bay-tseem Hotdog --------- Nuknakeyah ----------- nuk-uh-nuh-key-uh Ice Cream ------ Gleedah -------------- glee-dah Cake ----------- Oogah ---------------- oo-gah Cookies -------- Oogeote -------------- oo-gee-oat Colors Red ------------ Adome ---------------- ah-dome Blue ----------- Cachol --------------- ka-hole Green ---------- Yaroke --------------- yah-roke Yellow --------- Tsahov --------------- tsa-hove Orange --------- Catom ---------------- kah-tome Purple --------- Saggol --------------- sa-goal Pink ----------- Varode --------------- vah-road Brown ---------- Hoom ----------------- hoom Black ---------- Shachor -------------- shah-hore Body Parts Body ----------- Gof ------------------ gofe Face ----------- Panim ---------------- pan-eem Eye ------------ Ein ------------------ ay-een Eyes ----------- Enieem --------------- en-ay-eem Nose ----------- Af ------------------- off Mouth ---------- Pay ------------------ pay Ear ------------ Osen ----------------- oh-zen Ears ----------- Osnieem -------------- ozn-eye-eem Hair ----------- Sear ----------------- se-ar Arm/Hand ------- Yad ------------------ yahd Arms/Hands ----- Yadieem -------------- yah-die-eem Fingers -------- Etsbaot -------------- ets-bah-oat Leg ------------ Regel ---------------- reh-gel Legs ----------- Reglieem ------------- reh-glie-eem (The Hebrew word for soccer is "Cadur-regel," in which "cadur" means ball. Therefore, cadur-regel=football, or soccer.) I hope more people will add more words, and please do not put nonsense words, because I will check back regularly to add more.
