Hazara DivisionHazara is the largest Division of the N.W.F.P of Pakistan. It is bounded on the north by Black Mountain, the swat country, and Chillas, on the east by the native state of Kashmir, on the south by Rawalpindi and Islamabad and on the west by great river of Indus. The chief frontier tribes on the western outskirts of the border are Swatis, Akazais, Hassanzais and Sayyads etc. There are five Districts in the Division namely Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram and Kohistan. Leading major tribes residing Hazara Division are Syeds, Swati, Tareens,shilmani/shalmani, Jadoons, Mashwanis, Tanoli and Gujars. 25 percent of the population speaks Pashto and rest hindko, Gujri etc. The brave Tribes of Hazara division have never accepted the sovereignty of the Sikhs and Britishers. Continue ... The history of Hazara is very old as we can take it back from the time of Stones. The old name of Hazara was Urusa, which further turned to Orush. In Maha Bharita(Old Indian History 1301 BC) the name of Hazara is mentioned as Uraga, which means Lake. Alexander invaded this area and handed it over to the Raja of Poonch in 326 BC, his name was Abhisara and the area was called Abhisar. The region in 319 BC has been ruled by Moria Family. The riegn of Ashoka the great was exist from 234 BC to 272 BC. 135 BC the attacks of Sethans took places and Texila was subdued by them, they ruled upto 250 BC then Sakas took charge of the area.
