Hartfield

Hartfield Parish, situated in East Sussex, consists of several villages on the edge of Ashdown Forest. The rural civil parish includes Hartfield, Coleman's Hatch and Hammerwood & Holtye. Hartfield is famous for being the home of A.A. Milne, author of the Winnie the Pooh books, and the location for the Poohsticks Bridge. There is limited parking in the village, with a provision for short term stays in the High Street. There are no car parks and the village is narrow and not suitable for coaches. The Anchor and Hay Wagon Inns have private car parks for patrons only. In order to explore the area, we suggest driving to one of the many forest car parks, or starting with a visit to the Ashdown Forest Centre. The village itself boasts three public houses with gardens. The Hay Wagon and Anchor are in the centre, with The Gallipot about 10 minutes walk towards Forest Row.
