Harrisville is a borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 883.

Geography

Harrisville is located at 41°8'6" North, 80°0'35" West (41.134966, -80.009590). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.22% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 883 people, 323 households, and 231 families residing in the borough. The population density is 415.8/km² (1,079.5/mi²). There are 346 housing units at an average density of 162.9/km² (423.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.19% White, 0.57% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 0.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 323 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.92. In the borough the population is spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 23.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.9 males. The median income for a household in the borough is $31,964, and the median income for a family is $35,455. Males have a median income of $29,167 versus $17,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $12,683. 13.4% of the population and 8.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.6% of those under the age of 18 and 13.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
