Hagaman, New York

Hagaman is a village located in Montgomery County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,357. The Village of Hagaman is in the Town of Amsterdam, northeast of the City of Amsterdam.

Geography

Hagaman is located at 42°58'39" North, 74°9'2" West (42.977531, -74.150493). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²). 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,357 people, 557 households, and 374 families residing in the village. The population density is 340.2/km² (880.3/mi²). There are 582 housing units at an average density of 145.9/km² (377.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.79% White, 0.44% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 2.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 557 households out of which 26.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.94. In the village the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.1 males. The median income for a household in the village is $41,875, and the median income for a family is $52,500. Males have a median income of $32,463 versus $25,319 for females. The per capita income for the village is $19,527. 6.7% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.2% of those under the age of 18 and 13.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
