Hackberry, Texas

Hackberry is a town located in Denton County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 544.

Geography

Hackberry is located at 33°9'0" North, 96°55'7" West (33.150134, -96.918702). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.4 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 544 people, 154 households, and 133 families residing in the town. The population density is 389.0/km² (1,012.9/mi²). There are 162 housing units at an average density of 115.8/km² (301.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 62.50% White, 1.47% African American, 0.37% Native American, 1.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 31.07% from other races, and 3.49% from two or more races. 45.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 154 households out of which 50.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.6% are non-families. 10.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.53 and the average family size is 3.75. In the town the population is spread out with 37.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 15.6% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 124.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 113.8 males. The median income for a household in the town is $40,000, and the median income for a family is $41,563. Males have a median income of $28,854 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,427. 9.4% of the population and 10.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.9% of those under the age of 18 and 10.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
