Gwich'in

The Gwich'in (sometimes rendered as Kutchin), literally "one who dwells", are a First Nation people who live in the northern part of North America. There are approximately 7,000 Gwich'in in 15 small villages in the Yukon Territory of Canada and in northern Alaska. The Gwich'in language is an Athabaskan tongue used principally in the towns of Inuvik, Aklavik, Fort McPherson, and Tsiigehtchic all in the Northwest Territories, as well as Old Crow, Yukon, and Old Crown, Alaska. Caribou is traditionally a major component of their diet.
