Guntram

Guntram I was born around 545 and died in 592 in Chalon-sur-Sane. He was a son of Clotaire I, and was king of Burgundy and Orlans in 561 on the death of his father who divided the kingdom of the Franks into four parts. He fought against the barbarians who menaced the kingdom. He also tried to reconcile his two brothers Sigebert I and Chilperic I. On the death of Chilperic I, Guntram was called by Fredegund to protect her and her son Clotaire II. He then recovered the kingdom of Paris. In 587, he adopted Childebert II, son of Sigebert I and Brunhilda. He died without an heir in 592, and his kingdom passed to Childebert II.
