Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,850 km² (714 mi²). 1,842 km² (711 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.42% water. There are 33,585 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (47/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 77.65% White, 5.01% Black or African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 12.76% from other races, and 3.07% from two or more races. 33.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 30,900 households out of which 38.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.60% are married couples living together, 11.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.90% are non-families. 18.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.23. In the county, the population is spread out with 28.50% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 29.10% from 25 to 44, 22.20% from 45 to 64, and 11.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 97.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.30 males. The median income for a household in the county is $43,949, and the median income for a family is $49,645. Males have a median income of $32,450 versus $23,811 for females.
