Greenburgh, New YorkGreenburgh is a town located in Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 86,764. The Town of Greenburgh is in the western part of the county. Geography The west town line, marked by the Hudson River, is the border of Rockland County, New York. Interstate 87 passes through the town. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 93.7 km² (36.2 mi²). 79.0 km² (30.5 mi²) of it is land and 14.7 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 15.64% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 86,764 people, 33,043 households, and 23,097 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,097.6/km² (2,842.7/mi²). There are 34,084 housing units at an average density of 431.2/km² (1,116.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 72.41% White, 13.07% African American, 0.17% Native American, 8.77% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.94% from other races, and 2.59% from two or more races. 9.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 33,043 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.10. In the town the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $80,379, and the median income for a family is $99,198. Males have a median income of $64,186 versus $46,658 for females. The per capita income for the town is $43,778. 3.9% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
