Greek Legislative Election, 2000

Legislative elections were held in the Greek Republic on April 10, 2000. At stake were 300 seats in the Greek parliament, the Voule. The ruling Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) of Prime Minister Costas Simitis was narrowly re-elected, defeating the conservative New Democracy party.

Greek electoral law requires that the party winning a plurity of votes be awarded a majority of seats in the Voule. This involves some distortion of the proportionality of the result. Parties must poll 3% of the national vote to gain representation.
