Greater Montreal Area

The Greater Montreal Area is a term used to describe either the Montreal, Quebec, Canada Census Metropolitan Area or the Montreal Metropolitan Community (Communitie mtropolitaine de Montral) The CMA is defined by Statistics Canada while the Montreal Metropolitan Community is a level of government in Quebec, and is led by a clerk, who currently is Claude Sguin. The Metropolitan Community covers an area of 3,838.489 sq. km. and has a population of 3,493.485 sq. km. (estimate). The Montreal CMA had a population of 3,426,350 (2001 Census) and has an area of 4,047.35 sq. km.
