Granville IslandGranville Island is a small area of land located under the south end of the Granville Street bridge, which links the downtown area of the city of Vancouver to the area just south of False Creek. If it ever was an island, it was linked to the shoreline long ago. Originally industrial, Granville Island has become gentrified as the heavy industries departed, now providing such amenities as an upscale public market, a large marina, the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (named in honour of the artist), and various shopping areas, clustered around the one industrial outpost remaining, a cement plant. The island is very popular with tourists and has nowhere near enough parking for those who want to visit. Granville Island is also the name of a beer.
