Gore (Road)

A gore or gore point is the (chiefly American) name for a triangular piece of land found where roads merge or split. In many American states, gores on freeways at both onramps and offramps are marked with stripes. These help drivers entering the freeway to estimate how much time they have to match the speed of through traffic, and warn drivers improperly exiting the freeway right down the middle of a gore that they are about to run out of road. Hibberts, Maine is an example of a gore. As of the census of 2000, there is one person living there. According the United States Census Bureau, the gore of Hibberts, Maine is one of only four places in the United States to have a population of 1.
