Golinda is a city located in Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 400,423.

Geography

Golinda is located at 31°22'39" North, 97°4'29" West (31.377615, -97.074772). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.2 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 423 people, 171 households, and 128 families residing in the city. The population density is 39.4/km² (101.8/mi²). There are 185 housing units at an average density of 17.2/km² (44.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 76.36% White, 19.15% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.26% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 8.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 171 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.0% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.6% are non-families. 24.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.89. In the city the population is spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.9 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,955, and the median income for a family is $38,472. Males have a median income of $21,979 versus $22,159 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,136. 7.9% of the population and 8.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.6% of those under the age of 18 and 13.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
