Glasgow University Students' Representative CouncilGlasgow University Students' Representative Council was founded on 1886-03-09 and recognised as the legal representative body for University of Glasgow students by the Universities (Scotland) Act 1889. Unlike in other Scottish universities, student representation to the university is not the function of a Students Association. Moreover, the GUSRC plays no rôle in the social lives of students, those being the purview of the Glasgow University Union and the Queen Margaret Union. It is comprised of around 60 representatives elected mostly on the basis of faculties, however with several Welfare & Equal Opportunities Officers responsible for areas such as mature, international, and LGBT students. The day-to-day running of the organisation is conducted by the five full-time officers of the Executive Committee. Glasgow University SRC is represented at a national level by the Coalition of Higher Education Students in Scotland (CHESS), the National Postgraduate Committee (NPC), and The Aldwych Group.
