In 1897 work started on a new building to house the School on Renfrew Street. The building was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the first half of the building was completed in 1899 and the second in 1909. Graduates include architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, painters Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Ken Currie, Adrian Wiszniewski and Stephen Conroy, Toby Paterson, artist and scriptwriter John Byrne, comedy actor Robbie Coltrane, and broadcaster Muriel Gray. Mackintosh was later the designer of the fine-art buildings, considered by many to be his masterpiece. External link
