Giorgi Kvinitadze
Giorgi Kvinitadze
(in Georgian: გიორგი კვინიტაძე) (
1874
-
1970
) was a
Georgian
general and one of the most prominent military leaders of the
Democratic Republic of Georgia
. He graduated from
St Petersburg
General Staff Academy in
1910
and served as the Chief of Staff of the 4th
Caucasian
Division during the
WW1
(
1914
-
1918
). After the
Georgian
declaration of independence, Kvinitadze joined the national army and was the Chief of Staff during the
Georgian-Armenian War
of
1918
. He suppressed
Turkish
-backed
Muslim
revolt in southwestern
Georgia
in
1919
. He was appointed as the Commander in Chief and successfully defended the Georgian-Azerbaijani borders form the
Soviet
attacks in
April
1920
. However, the young Georgian republic couldnt survive the
Soviet
invasion of
February
1921
and General Kvinitadze immigrated to
France
, where he died in
1970
. He is the author of Memoirs.
