Code Data

History

In the early 2000's, Ghana Airways chartered Airbus A330 aircraft from Canadian operator SkyService Airlines and McDonnell Douglas MD-11 arcraft from USA operator World Airways to perform part of its North American operations. In late 2003, it suffered from DC-10 aircraft becoming unoperable due to maintenance obligations and as a result was forced to cancel a large segment of its long-range flights until it purchased two ex-Hawaiian Airlines DC-10 aircraft. The airline is currently exploring a significant restructuring project. As of 28 July 2004, Ghana Airways has been barred from flying to and from the United States due to safety concerns. http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=664E3A2F-0476-439E-9E87923CF7A1509F - The U.S. government plans to allow them to fly there once they solve the problems. On 13 August 2004, the board of Ghana Airways was sacked and tickets were stopped from being sold. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3561480.stm

Ghana Airways flies to North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Fleet

Ghana Airways appears to have no jet aircraft in its fleet (at March 2005). An Airbus A330-300 was disposed of in May 2002 and an Airbus A320-200 in March 2004. Previously Douglas DC-10 aircraft were used on international routes and Douglas DC-9 aircraft on domestic and regional routes.
