Gavio is a Portuguese district in the District of Portalegre, in the region Alentejo and subregio of Alto Alentejo, with about 1,800 inhabitants. The municipality covers 293,55 km of area and 4,887 inhabitants (2001), divided in 5 parishes. The municpality is bounded by Mao in the W and N, Nisa in the E, Crato in the SE, Ponte de Sr in the SW and Abrantes in the W. Gavio received the charter from D.
