Fruit Brute

Fruit Brute was one of a line of five monster-themed breakfast cereals produced by General Mills. The frosted fruit-flavoured cereal contained lime flavoured marshmallows. It is also the name of the cereal's mascot, a humorous cartoon werewolf. Other cereals in the line include Count Chocula (chocolate flavoured), Boo Berry (blueberry flavoured), Franken Berry (strawberry flavoured), and Yummy Mummy (fruit flavoured with vanilla marshmallows). Fruit Brute was produced from 1975 to 1983. Somewhat unusual for a retired advertising character, Fruit Brute continues to be seen on the occasional piece of official merchandise: in recent years both a resin model kit and a bobblehead statue have been sold in his image.

Tarantino films

A box of Fruit Brute cereal is clearly visible in Mr. Freddie Orange's (Tim Roth) apartment, in Quentin Tarantino's 1992 movie Reservoir Dogs. It was also featured briefly in Tarantino's 1994 movie Pulp Fiction during a memorable scene involving the drug dealer character, Lance (Eric Stoltz), talking on a cellphone to Vincent Vega (John Travolta). Tarantino saved a box before the cereal was discontinued in 1983. In both films, the cereal is a visual cue for "wolflike" behaviour between characters.
