Fried Ice Cream

Fried ice cream is an American dessert. Fried ice cream is sometimes associated with soul food, but is even more associated with fairs and carnivals. It is prepared by taking deep-frozen ice cream (ice cream which has been frozen well below the standard 0 degrees F at which ice cream is generally kept) and rolling it in a breading which is usually cookie crumbs. This breaded ice cream is then briefly fried. The low temperature to which the ice cream has been frozen prevents the ice cream from melting during the brief frying process. When served the product is generally still frozen in the middle but sizziling on the outside. Baked Alaska is another food made by quickly cooking ice cream.
