Fred R. TaylorFred R. Taylor (born December 3, 1924 in Zanesville, Ohio - died January 6, 2002 in Columbus, Ohio) was a college men's basketball coach. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Army Air Force. After service he entered the Ohio State University in 1946. He was an outstanding basketball and baseball player, starting as forward on the 1950 Big Ten championship basketball team and winning All-American honors in baseball. He briefly played professional baseball for the Washington Senators, from 1950-1952, seeing only 49 at-bats in the big leagues. He returned to Ohio State as basketball coach in 1958, as an assistant the first year, becoming head coach in 1959 and coaching through 1976. His career record as Ohio State coach was 297-158.
