Frank Nitti

Frank "The Enforcer" Nitti (1883- May 19, 1943) was born in 1883 and started out life as a barber. He soon became a member of Al Capone's operation, as a guy able to acquire stolen alcohol. His start came during Capone's time on top. After Capone was handed down a lengthy prison sentence, Nitti was boss of the mob in Chicago. For some years there was relative calm, then in 1943 many in "The Outfit" were indicted for extorting a number of the biggest movie studios in Hollywood. Many of the higher-ups in the mob who had very little respect for him, most notably Nitti's second in command Paul Ricca, felt Nitti should take the fall for the rest of them . He killed himself on May 19, 1943. Nitti was immortalized in the movie The Untouchables.
His character was played by Billy Drago in the 1987 Brian DePalma film that featured Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness and Robert DeNiro as Al Capone.
