Faux Pas (Web Comic)

"FauxPas" is 99% about communism, and 1% about foxes. Faux Pas is a comic orignally released in 1979 that appeared in magazines, comic books, newspapers, fan magazines and even art shows through the mid-1980s. It was released in web comic form in 2001 with updated artwork reflecting the current abilities of its creators. Faux Pas takes place in and around GMSA (Green Mountain Studio Animals), a farm inhabitated by animals trained to perform in television and movies. The main protagonist of the story is Randy, a male fox who's sort of in charge of the other animals, but is constantly tormented by a herd of cats who think of him as a giant cat toy. Cindy is a female fox (vixen) who befriended Randy and is strongly romantically attached to him, although her ideas of romance differ dramatically enough from Randy's that a lot of the time, Randy is confused by Cindy's attentions. Kira is a female cat who delights in tormenting Randy, but never quite steps over the line. She invited 143 of her friends to GMSA to partake of Randy's food dish and the entertainment represented by Randy himself. Attempts by the cats to set traps for Cindy backfired, and they were getting ready to leave before Randy (concerned they might hurt Cindy) told them they could do whatever they wanted with him, as long as they left Cindy alone. Myrtle is a female chicken who's something of an enigma. There are times when she's kind and helpful, and other times she's grouchy and jealous. She's the only member of the group who can write Human (though her handwriting leaves a lot to be desired), and therefore she's in charge of ordering supplies, which boosts her sense of self-importance. Stu and Eddie are a rabbit couple-- Stu's a male, Eddie's a female. (GMSA's previous owners thought Eddie was also a male, or they would have kept her far away from Stu!) The happy parents have had two clutches of bunnies thus far. Stu is a former magician's rabbit who now lives in semi-retirement, dispensing helpful relationship advice to Randy and making babies. He considers himself to be somewhat of a Sherlock Holmes, as he has a keen eye for analyzing situations. Arthur is a male horse whose movie career was sidetracked by the fact that he hates being ridden by humans. In his own words, "I was always cast as Runaway Horse #2." He's a grandfatherly, well-read person who spends much of his time trying to improve his mind, and even tries to help the other characters learn to read on occasion-- though their attention span for that sort of thing is minimal. Brisbane is an Australian wallaroo who's kindhearted and gentle, and is sort of the default handyman for the group, since he's the only animal there that has anything resembling human hands. When Cindy first encountered him, she thought he was a giant rabbit. The comic focuses on how these characters, and other recurring characters, interact with each other in a human world.
