Fatback Band

The Fatback Band (later, Fatback) were a 1970s and '80s American funk band. They began recording in 1973 (see 1973 in music) with "Street Dance" and "Fatbackin' " (Perception Records) and then some singles on Event Records. Sales were slim until "Spanish Hustle" (1976, 1976 in music), which was a moderate hit. 1979's "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is widely considered the first hip hop single. In the 1980s, Fatback had several more hits, including "Take It Any Way You Cant It" and "Spread Love".
