Farmington, Michigan

Farmington is a city located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 10,423. During October, people go to haunted house at the former Farmington winery for Halloween.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,423 people, 4,825 households, and 2,764 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,507.2/km² (3,904.4/mi²). There are 4,991 housing units at an average density of 721.7/km² (1,869.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 85.67% White, 2.73% African American, 0.18% Native American, 10.08% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,825 households out of which 24.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% are married couples living together, 7.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.7% are non-families. 38.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.86. In the city the population is spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $56,442, and the median income for a family is $75,578. Males have a median income of $54,780 versus $39,435 for females. The per capita income for the city is $32,452. 3.3% of the population and 1.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.8% of those under the age of 18 and 6.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
