located in the
Maple Leaf
neighborhood
of
Seattle, Washington
. It was founded in
1976
by
Gary Groth
and
Mike Catron
.
Kim Thompson
joined the company several years later, and is currently co-owner with Groth. In 2003 the company nearly went out of business, but was saved by a restructuring and an outpouring of support from customers. Fantagraphics is dedicated to promoting comics as a respectable art form. Publications include:
