Fairfield, TexasFairfield is a city located in Freestone County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,094. It is the county seat of Freestone County. Geography Fairfield is located at 31°43'19" North, 96°9'29" West (31.721940, -96.158011). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²). 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,094 people, 1,235 households, and 791 families residing in the city. The population density is 264.9/km² (685.6/mi²). There are 1,431 housing units at an average density of 122.5/km² (317.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 71.46% White, 21.43% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.65% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. 10.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,235 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 13.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.06. In the city the population is spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $28,636, and the median income for a family is $40,871. Males have a median income of $29,643 versus $15,887 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,308. 18.2% of the population and 14.1% of families are below the poverty line.
