F-zero

F-Zero is a futuristic racing game series from Nintendo. Unlike most futuristic racing games, F-Zero gives little focus to "car combat" and its primary concept is about down and dirty high-speed racing at speeds of up to 2000 km/h.

Games

The release order of games in the F-Zero series is as follows:
  • F-Zero (1991) - First in the series. Second game ever released for the Super Famicom/SNES. F-Zero was the first SNES title to use a technique that Nintendo called "Mode 7 Scrolling", a form of Parallax scrolling, to simulate 3D environments. Such techniques in games were considered to be revolutionary in a time when most games were restricted to static/flat backgrounds and 2 dimensional (2D) objects.
  • F-Zero 2 (1995) - Pseudo-sequel to the original. Released only in Japan, via the Satellaview add-on to the Super Famicom.
  • F-Zero X (1998) - First true sequel. Rendered fully in 3D, released exclusively for the Nintendo 64.
  • F-Zero X Expansion Kit (2000) - Japanese only, was the 64DD's first add on disk. Added a car and course editor.
  • F-Zero Maximum Velocity (2001) - First Game Boy incarnation of the series. Very similar to the original SNES title (unlike other GBA - SNES ports however, this has different new tracks from the original).
  • F-Zero GX/AX (2003) - Simultaneous release on Nintendo GameCube (GX) and to arcades (AX). Co-developed by Nintendo and Sega's Amusement Vision team (known for the Super Monkey Ball game series).
  • F-Zero: GP Legend (2004) - Sequel to F-Zero Maximum Velocity, now with a story mode based on the anime series of the same name. Its Japanese name is "F-Zero: Falcon Tradition."
  • F-Zero Climax (2004) - Third GBA incarnation, released only in Japan so far. Features a track editor.
