Expressways Of JapanThe expressways (高速道路, kōsokudōro, lit. 'high-speed road') of Japan make up a large network of controlled-access toll roads carrying traffic at speeds up to 100 km/hr. This network boasts an uninterrupted link between Aomori Prefecture at the nothern part of Honshu and Kagoshima Prefecture at the southern part of Kyushu, linking Shikoku as well. Additional highways serve travellers in Hokkaido and on Okinawa Honto, although those are not connected to the Honshu-Kyushu-Shikoku grid. From Tokyo, several important expressways radiate in various directions, including (among others) The Meishin Expressway further links Nagoya to Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. The Sanyo Expressway connects Suita, Osaka and Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi. Additional major superhighways on Honshu include the Hokuriku Expressway and the Sanin Expressway.
