Euronext was formed on September 22, 2000 in a merger of the exchanges of Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, in order to take advantage of the harmonization of the European Union financial markets. In 2002 the group merged with the Portuguese exchange BVLP (Bolsa de Valores de Lisboa e Porto) and LIFFE (London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange).
