Ethiopian MovementEthiopian Movement One of the three main classifications used by European theologians to group African Christian churches. The Ethiopian Movement was founded in 1872 by South African Mangenga Mokone. His preachings included "Africa for the Africans" based on his interpretation of a biblical passage: "Ethiopia shall soon stretch forth its hands unto God" (Psalm 68:31). He taught that an African Church should be under African control. The UNIA-ACL would later expound on Mokone's interpretation when making "Africa for the Africans" its slogan.
