Essonne The French dpartement of Essonne forms part of the rgion of Ile-de-France. It was formed on January 1, 1968 with the split of the Seine-et-Oise dpartement. Administration History The Essonne dpartement was created on the 1st January 1968, from the south part of the former dpartement of Seine-et-Oise. In 1969, the communes of Chteaufort and Toussus-le-Noble were separated from Essonne and added to the dpartement of Yvelines. Geography Essonne belongs to the region of le-de-France. It has borders with the dpartements of: All of northern Essonne dpartement belongs to the Parisian agglomeration and is very urbanized. The south remains rural.
