Ertapenem

Ertapenem is an carbapenem antibiotic marketed under the name INVANZ. It is similar to the earlier imipenem, but has a longer half-life. The marketing slogan is The Power of One, as the dose is one gram, once a day. It must be given parenterally (by injection or infusion). It is designed to be more effective against gram-negative bacteria than its predecessor. It is not effective against MRSA or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
