Epic Armageddon

Epic Armageddon (the latest in Epic series of games) is a tabletop war game made by Games Workshop. Epic is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe however where Warhammer 40,000 involves small battles between forces of a few squads of troops and two or three vehicles, Epic shows huge wars between massive armies of many dozens of tanks and hundreds of soldiers. The scale of Epic is far smaller than in Warhammer 40,000 with a squad of soldiers (3 to 7 figures) in Epic being on a base smaller than one which a single soldier occupies in Warhammer 40,000. One interesting feature of Epic: Armageddon is that, unlike previous editions of the game and other games produced by Games Workshop, the development of the game was conducted in an open way with 'trial' rules published on the Epic 'Playtest Vault' and feedback solicited from gamers on the associated playtesters forum. This has continued with the development of further army lists. Turns are different in Epic: Armageddon from other Games Workshop games. Instead of a player moving and firing all of his forces in one massive turn, players take turns moving one or two units at a time, giving the feeling of a battlefield developing in real time. The entire rulebook is on the http://www.epic-battles.com website, so it is easily and regularly updated. The monetary commitment to playing this game is inexpensive. A competitive tournament army can be had for about US$200. Setting of Epic Armageddon is 999.M41, third invasion of Ghazghkull, orkish warboss.
