Englischer Garten

The Englischer Garten or "English Garden" is a large park in central Munich, Germany. It was founded in 1789 by Benjamin Thompson also known as Count Rumford. With an area covering nearly 4 km the Englischer Garten is one of the world's largest city parks. English refers to the type of garden; an English garden is made to look like unplanned wildnerness with meandering paths. The Englischer Garten houses several natural and man-made attractions:
  • Kleinhesseloher See
  • Japanische Teehaus ("Japanese Tea House"): a japanese style tea house
  • Monopterus: a small Greek style temple built by Leo von Klenze
  • Schoenfeldwiese: a public outdoor nudist area
  • Chinesischer Turm ("Chinese Pagoda") with beer garden
  • Aumeister: traditonal beer garden
