Enfield, New YorkEnfield is a town located in Tompkins County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,369. The Town of Enfield is located on the western border of the county. Geography The west town line is the border of Schuyler County, New York. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 95.6 km² (36.9 mi²). 95.5 km² (36.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.05% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,369 people, 1,323 households, and 891 families residing in the town. The population density is 35.3/km² (91.3/mi²). There are 1,432 housing units at an average density of 15.0/km² (38.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.81% White, 1.87% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 2.02% from two or more races. 1.69% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,323 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.02. In the town the population is spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $36,538, and the median income for a family is $40,183. Males have a median income of $28,000 versus $24,625 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,795. 13.5% of the population and 11.9% of families are below the poverty line.
