Elma, WashingtonElma is a city located in Grays Harbor County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,049. Geography is located at 47°0'20" North, 123°24'23" West (47.005648, -123.406268). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,049 people, 1,195 households, and 764 families residing in the city. The population density is 700.7/km² (1,812.6/mi²). There are 1,330 housing units at an average density of 305.7/km² (790.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.98% White, 0.59% African American, 1.31% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.26% Pacific Islander, 1.64% from other races, and 3.94% from two or more races. 3.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,195 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.9% are married couples living together, 13.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% are non-families. 27.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.06. In the city the population is spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,031, and the median income for a family is $36,638. Males have a median income of $38,929 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,629. 19.4% of the population and 13.9% of families are below the poverty line.
