Eight-man Football

Eight-Man Football is a type played by small schools. The field is 80 yards long. The rules require that the offense align 3 players in the backfield and 5 on the line of scrimmage. A standard I-Formation has a Quarterback, a Fullback, a Tailback and 5 linemen. Usually the outside linemen are a tight end and speed reciever, but it varies by formation. The games are frequently high scoring because there number of players is reduced by more than the size of the field is -- thus fast players usually find more open field to run in. One main rule difference is: -If one team has a 45 point advantage at the end of the first half, the game is ended(The mercy rule).
