Egg Harbor Township is a township located in Atlantic County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 30,726.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 194.1 km² (75.0 mi²). 174.4 km² (67.3 mi²) of it is land and 19.7 km² (7.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.15% water. Since the 2000 census, the township has grown considerably.

Demographics

As of the census ² of 2000, there are 30,726 people, 11,199 households, and 8,108 families residing in the township. The population density is 176.1/km² (456.2/mi²). There are 12,067 housing units at an average density of 69.2/km² (179.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 79.42% White, 10.37% African American, 0.21% Native American, 5.05% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.82% from other races, and 2.07% from two or more races. 6.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 11,199 households out of which 37.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% are non-families. 22.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.23. In the township the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.7 males. The median income for a household in the township is $52,550, and the median income for a family is $60,032. Males have a median income of $40,033 versus $30,643 for females. The per capita income for the township is $22,328. 5.4% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.2% of those under the age of 18 and 9.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
