East KilbrideEast Kilbride is a town in West Central Scotland, about 10 miles south of Glasgow. East Kilbride emerged from a small village of around 900 inhabitants to a busy new town with a population of over 70,000. Twinned with the village of Ballerup in Denmark, the town recently lost out to Stirling in city status by the Queen and prior to that it lost out to Inverness as the Millennium city. East Kilbride sits on the Calder river. Its large shopping centre, known by local residents as "The Town Centre" rather than its separately named departments, holds the title of largest indoor shopping centre in Scotland and 10th largest in Europe.
